Transporter Refueled, A Walk in the Woods, Mistress America, and Dope open in Columbia This Week

Here’s what’s new this week. I really don’t know what ‘The Transporter Refueled’ is about. A truck stop? And the sweet movie ‘Dope’ is re-opening. Check that one out. It’s a bit like if Spike Lee made a John Hughes film. Also don’t miss ‘Mistress America’, from Noah Baumbach and co-written with Greta Gerwig, opening Friday at the Nickelodeon.

No Escape, We Are Your Friends, Best of Enemies & War Room Open This Week in Columbia

It’s looking like a bit of a lackluster week for movies. Your best bet is probably No Escape, if only because of Owen Wilson and Lake Bell. If you don’t know Lake Bell, she wrote, directed and starred in a great movie about voiceover work in Hollywood called In A World“>In a World.

Also worth checking out is Best of Enemies, a documentary about a series of debates between Gore Vidal and William F. Buckley in 1968, starting Friday at the Nickelodeon.

Pixels, Mr. Holmes, Southpaw, & Paper Towns open this week in Columbia + Blaktastik Festival

A good variety of movies opening this week. Most of them seem decent, except for Pixels. As a child of the 80’s I want it to be good but the presence of Adam Sandler surely seals its fate.

Also, the Nickelodeon is featuring the Blaktastik film festival which features a full slate of interesting events involving film, live music and art.

Terminator Genisys, Magic Mike XXL and more open this week in Columbia

July 4 is usually a big movie weekend and with a new Terminator movie plus a new Magic Mike movie I would expect that to be the case this year.

Magic Mike XXL

Me and Earl and the Dying Girl

This is the one I want to see this week. It’s only playing for a couple days at the Nick, but maybe if they get a good response they’ll keep it around longer.

Faith of Our Fathers

Jurrassic World, Love & Mercy, Results and more open this week in Columbia

Dinosaurs of more than one sort are featured in this week’s new movies. We’ve got the re-animated type in Jurassic World and the musical type in the Brian Wilson biopic Love & Mercy. And since it’s the summer there are a couple movie series happening. The Nickelodeon just kicked off their Southern Gothic Series and Regal Cinemas has their family-oriented Summer Movie Express.

Jurassic World

I really hope Chris Pratt brings some Burt Macklin style to his role.

Love & Mercy

This movie is from writer/director Andrew Bujalski, known mainly as being the highest profile creator in the ‘mumblecore‘ genre.

Lambert & Stamp

I’m really looking forward to seeing this documentary about two of the early managers for The Who.
